Trans Euro Asset Management

teamlogo.gifTrans Euro Asset Management (TEAM) was formed in 2003 as an arranger of operating lease transactions for European corporate customers, with a particular focus on industrial production equipment.

The two founders of TEAM, Chris Jewell (below, left) and Simon Hamilton (below, right), had known each other for a number of years having worked together in the context of the Lombard/GATX operating lease joint venture and subsequently at GATX Europe.

cjewell.jpgChris’s role within these businesses had been the setting of residual values for a wide range of manufacturing equipment and remarketing these assets at the end of lease, Simon had previously been the head of Lombard in France, an activity which was sold to Fortis in 2001 at the time of the RBS acquisition of NatWest.

Since 2003, TEAM has evolved from its initial activity of structuring operating leases which primarilyshamilton.jpg involved the sourcing of the residual value. Today, TEAM manages two leasing companies based in Dublin; the first of these focuses on operating lease transactions for corporate customers which are bankable by the mainstream finance community (even in today’s environment) and the second one finances via sale/leaseback of core industrial assets companies in a restructuring phase where the requirement is to raise cash. This latter business is financed by an investment fund.

Transactions for these two businesses range from Euro 5 – 50 million and the assets are spread across most European Community states with a strong focus on France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

In addition to these two activities, TEAM also manages the assets of a small investment fund ORVIF which comprises a group of individual investors who are active in French industry and the finance & insurance communities in both the UK and France. ORVIF co-invests with the investment fund partners of TEAM in special situation and recovery transactions generally for a ticket value which is less than Euro 5 million.
