Is blogging a gimmick or does it serve a purpose?

Do you believe everything that you read? Well even the most discerning and sceptical of readers can be misled. Unless you know the subject, author and context thoroughly you can find yourself accepting the written word as the truth. And even when you are an expert in your field can you be sure? For example, how comfortable are we about the genetic research by Gregor Mendel, or the cold fusion experiments by Pons & Fleischmann? Or the product advertising that proclaims improved health or appearance of , for example, shampoos and hair dyes?

So what has this to do with leasing? Well do we believe all that we read in our leasing trade journals ? and should we not question the content and motives behind the articles?

Blogging overcomes the problems faced by trade journals, since a weblog gives you, the reader, a level of investigation and analysis that is not possible from a static publication, as well as the ease of access.  In a weblog environment, you have ability to question content, and a right of recourse; a subject that all leasing professionals are familiar with. Sure, a weblog is a personal statement of belief or experience but you can test the content, challenge the author and develop new ideas and thoughts. This has to be a good thing.

Well, what can I say. Blogging has proved itself all over the internet already, so why not in Leasing?

Go ahead and read the Cluetrain (http://www.cluetrain.com/book/index.html). Then you will no what's in store.

This is a wonderful initiative!
